An AI assistant to accompany you during your visit to PortAventura (POC)
At Creagia, we love exploring new ideas and testing the potential of technology applied to real-life experiences. Some members of our team are big PortAventura fans, and this led us, between late 2023 and early 2024, to develop a proof of concept for an AI assistant that accompanies visitors during their stay in the park.
Although it is a prototype created almost two years ago, we believe it remains an interesting exercise that demonstrates how far the combination of AI, geolocation, and user experience can go in a theme park environment.
What did this assistant propose?
The basic concept was an AI assistant that could be used both at the user’s request and proactively at certain moments. The goal was not just to answer questions but to anticipate needs and improve the overall experience inside the park.
Some of the main features and ideas we explored included:
- Visitor geolocation to provide contextual information: distances to attractions, nearby points of interest, or services.
- Intelligent upselling, such as promoting Express Pass when waiting times were high.
- Dynamic user profiles, automatically created based on responses, to adapt recommendations to families, thrill-seekers, or more relaxed visitors.
- Synchronization with ride waiting times and conditional recommendations based on them.
- Integration with hotel reservations, allowing an optimal plan for several days of stay and sending helpful reminders: “Remember that dinner starts in 30 minutes; you’re about a 16-minute walk from the hotel.”
- Queue entertainment, with mini-games and interactive activities that the assistant could proactively suggest, knowing the user was waiting in line (via geolocation) and retrieving wait time data from an API.
- Expanding the park’s storytelling, sharing theming stories, curiosities, and exclusive pro tips for fans.
A prototype in action
The test materialized into a functional prototype that showcased several of these concepts in action. Although it was just a first step, it served to validate the idea and demonstrate how AI assistant technology can enrich and personalize the experience of a theme park like PortAventura.

Why is it still relevant?
Even though this prototype was created in January 2024, it remains a valid example of how AI can enhance large-scale leisure experiences: from logistics efficiency to personalized entertainment. Not only does it improve the user journey by adapting to individual tastes and needs, but it can also optimize operations (e.g., suggesting redistributions of visitors within the park) and increase revenue (via upsellings and contextual recommendations: Fancy a snack? There’s a great waffle stand just two minutes away!).
At Creagia, we believe that the future of leisure spaces lies in the combination of technology and storytelling, to create more immersive, intelligent, and personalized experiences for every visitor.
This proof of concept not only reflects our enthusiasm for the park but also demonstrates our ability to turn ideas into tangible solutions that connect technology and emotion.
